2026 Summer Activities in Piton

There's a lot happening in Piton this summer!

 Summer Camp 2026

The official school year ends this week but Samuel and the students aren't taking much time off. Summer Camp 2026 begins next week!

It's a less structured version of regular school to keep the students engaged and fed. Medecins du Monde (Doctors to the World) and the area law enforcement will visit with the students, on separate occasions, to discuss rejecting gang activity, mental health, and other topics such as dental care, and hygiene.  The students will participate in bible studies, academic studies, and work in the community gardens. And, of course, there will be a soccer tournament and any number of impromptu games.

Help us provide these activities to the Piton Community School students:

  • training sessions with Medecins du Monde (Doctors to the World)
  • training sessions with local law enforcement
  • bible study
  • agricultural activities and training
  • academics
  • physical exercise and competition

The estimated cost of summer camp from June 15 through August 20 is:

$3,900

~or~

$390/week

Note: Inflation has been a major problem in Haiti. For instance, we've seen a 40% increase for the cost of school materials and supplies. For summer school, our cost has increased by about 25%, plus we are adding 2 weeks to the duration.

Public Latrine

As Piton becomes more of a hub of activity for surrounding areas, we need to build a public latrine at the nearest crossroads for the sake of sanitation. The estimated cost is $3,850.

The latrine will be positioned at this crossroad. Imagine you took this photo, the latrine will be at your back.

We have multiple latrines on the school property to accomodate the school students, staff, and attendees for other functions.

Many families or family groups have private latrines on their property.

This will be the first public latrine Piton Partnership has built.

$3,850

will build a much-needed public latrine

for visitors to Piton.

Thank you for putting good into the world!

And latrines.

Thanks to the support of a generous and practical-minded supporter, we built our first public latrine in July 2026! It is situated between the two villages we serve, Piton & Piton West, on the footpath used by the local villagers, and those coming from further away. Activities in Piton have increased greatly. The population has more than doubled due to the arrival of refugees from the Port-au-Prince area and villages in between. More people visit these two mountain top villages now more than ever, and the need for a public latrine is urgent for the sake of sanitation. This post will be updated with photos as construction continues.
