Agricultural Education & Production

The Piton Community School utilizes the grounds surrounding the school for gardens, the products of which benefits the school's kitchen. Samuel has begun implementing an educational element to this facet of school life. The goal is to generate more income and sustenance for the families in the community.

We’re proud of Samuel’s efforts, especially with students and the women of the community.

He is teaching them methods to help combat food insecurity for the families in and around Piton.

Since 2020, Samuel and a group of women villagers have begun a rabbit breeding program and a goat co-op.

These programs were begun without money sent from the U.S.

In 2022, we worked with Samuel to launch a coffee program to provide the village with a product

they could take to the market and sell.

“I am working to reinforce student abilities in the garden. It is a center where students will gain knowledge together that will serve them in the future. I love working so much where students learn outside the classroom. They will have extensive experience in agriculture and environment.”
